About the Role

Are you passionate about educating and supporting young people with SEND? Would you like a career in a custom-built facility that has been designed to enable young people with severe learning difficulties and complex needs to develop independent living skills needed to participate and thrive within the College and the wider community?

HSDC are seeking Learning Support Assistants in our Independence Hub to support us in providing a high quality, accessible, life skills based curriculum that equips young people in building confidence and skills to prepare them for a smooth transition into adulthood.

The postholder will ensure that all learners receiving support have the opportunity to develop their independence, feel empowered to make choices and achieve their full potential.  You will contribute to an outstanding learner experience from the start of their college journey to progression into further study, supported employment, or adult services.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Provide high quality in class or small group support to learners identified with additional learning needs, under the guidance of the class teacher, in all learning environments
  • Plan, implement and measure the impact of the support work carried out in the classroom in order to evaluate its effectiveness and work towards continual improvement of the service
  • Be a part of the College’s learner assessment process, assisting curriculum tutors to gather support data, keeping accurate records that are accessible to all who require them.
  • To provide, as required, reading/amanuensis, practical assistance and invigilation for both internal and external exams that take place within the College.

Requirements

You will need:

  • Experience of working with people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
  • Learning Support or similar qualification or be willing to work towards.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • A passion for making a positive difference to young people’s lives.
